collage journeys by Jane Davies: Scraps

I appear to be obsessive about scraps lately. They bring to mind the particles from explosions (assume Ukraine), fragments of lives washed up on a seashore from a aircraft crash or shipwreck. But additionally the piecing collectively of worn out scraps to make one thing helpful or lovely (assume quilts within the conventional sense).

This and the following two photographs are the ‘elements’ that I am making, that are then reduce up and reassembled.

These include painted papers, gel prints, discovered papers, and repurposed ‘items’.

Although these have a random look, I do take note of various the size of the items, and the size of the patterns, textures, and marks on the little bits.

This work in course of combines one of many ‘collage quilts’ (reduce edited) with one other work in course of. 20″x20″ on wooden panel.

Comparable in course of to the above piece. Each are works in course of.

Collage quilts mixed and edited over a portray, 20″x20″

This one is completed. Ta DA!! 24″x24″ on wooden panel.
4″x6″ window mat. Making an attempt to see some prospects of up-close tiny collages on this and the following two photographs.

4″x4″

4″x4″

Another choice I am contemplating is ‘floating’ these reassembled scraps as ‘maps’ or continents, with plenty of area round them.

Similar as above.

This course of was impressed by my workshop, The Visible Sentence, which I taught in January in Tucson (hosted by MISA) and in addition at Hudson River Valley Artwork Workshops final June. The scholar work was wonderful.
