The Sunday Paper #515
July 21, 2024
Registration opened this week for New Altitudes, the annual assembly of the North American Hand Papermakers, which is going down in Denver, October 17-19. I’m honored to be giving the Anita Lynn Forgach Keynote Lecture, and I’ll be speaking about how shifting to altitude helped me develop my enterprise (amongst different issues). There might be many different great displays, demonstrations and exhibitions, all regarding handmade paper. I hope to see a few of you there! Scholarships can be found.

I’ve featured the work of Paul Cocksedge on the weblog earlier than. In his Shade version, the intrusive fittings and flexes of standard lamps vanish.

The work of Roberto Mannino is featured in a present opening this week (by way of August sixteenth) at Visitors Zone in Minneapolis. “Up to date papermaking is an inventive self-discipline based mostly on the management between states of matter, from fibrous to semifluid and to strong and substantial once more… A profitable piece is the one which embeds and displays this umbilical wire, the dialogue between the artist and the matter, the place a pure course of reveals itself.”

I haven’t revealed a video in my Papermaking Sequence in awhile. I get fairly a number of questions on beating pulp, so I made this video once I was beating uncooked flax lately.

I loved Episode 102, within the Confluence Documentary Sequence: Materials World (search for it in your native PBS station). It options many artists and the way they work together with their supplies. Matt Shlian (who I featured on this episode of Paper Speak) talks about his relationship with paper.
