Constructed in 1891 as a short lived residential palace for the Maharaja of Vadodara, the constructing was gifted by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad to the Kala Bhawan Technical Institute in 1892.
Unfold over an space of 2200 sq. meters, the palace was conceived by architect A. H. Coyle, and building started in 1884. The constructing was constructed within the neo-classical or Indo-Saracenic architectural model with Gothic fillings and an entrance marked by an elaborate “porte cochere” and a tower. A number of massive and small onion-shaped domes capped the “chattris” and the central tower. The domes are additional embellished with indigenous parts like finials and a row of petal-like parts defining the bottom of the domes. The plan of the constructing resembles the English letter E. The central wing together with the linear wing are double-storeyed, whereas the nook wings are single-storeyed. Semi-circular arches, pedimental home windows with murals, and pilasters are the classical parts of the constructing.
Thus, the Kala Bhawan Institute, which started its journey from this palace constructing with the novel goal of manufacturing expert artisans, is, since 1949, the College of Know-how and Engineering on the Maharaja Sayajirao College of Vadodara.
The palace is depicted in monotone (Sepia) watercolours on 250 GSM watercolour paper.
