COLLAGE ON VIEW
Andrea Burgay on the Kansas Metropolis Public Library, Central Library in Kansas Metropolis, Missouri, USA by 17 August 2024. Andrea Burgay’s “Fictions” sequence explores realms of remembrance, nostalgia, projection, and evolution. The Brooklyn-based artist creates sculptural collages out of deconstructed paperbacks discovered at thrift shops or used guide gross sales. These books, in genres corresponding to science fiction, motion/journey, or romance, are chosen for a colour or texture that resonates, or a title or phrase that draws the attention. In her studio, Burgay layers the books with collage components, then repeatedly takes them aside and reassembles them into new kinds. The consequence: a metamorphosis that evokes each deterioration and regrowth. Learn Extra
