SOLO RESIDENCY
Renold Laurent
Initially from Haiti and now residing in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kolaj Institute Solo Resident Renold Laurent, writes, “New Orleans is a vital cultural crossroads the place European, African, and Native American cultures intersect. Sharing with Haiti a historical past marked by the slave commerce, this metropolis constitutes a great setting for historic and non secular exploration.” Laurent’s challenge initially aimed to deepen these hyperlinks by iconographic analysis and visible creations whereas addressing common themes reminiscent of reminiscence, resistance, and spirituality. Throughout his residency, he’ll concentrate on the connections between Haiti and New Orleans, the Nice Migration. By a collection of collage artworks, poems, and phrase fragments, incorporating historic images, newspaper clippings, and private tales, he’ll create work that explores private and historic narratives. Laurent’s Residency runs 23-28 December 2024. The artist will maintain visiting hours at Kolaj Institute Gallery in New Orleans on Friday and Saturday, 27 and 28 December 2024 from 4 to 6PM.
