(Tamil: ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் கோயில், transl. Srī kiruṣṇaṉ kōyil) is a Hindu temple in Singapore. Inbuilt 1870 and gazetted as a nationwide monument of Singapore in 2014, it’s considered one of Singapore’s oldest temples and is the one South Indian temple in Singapore devoted to Krishna and his consort Rukmini.
The temple started as a shrine laid in 1870 by a Hindu immigrant, Hanuman Beem Singh, a rich service provider who had been deported to Singapore by the British administration in India. By that point, a big Hindu group had fashioned throughout the bounds of Bras Basah Highway, Victoria Avenue and Albert Avenue. In response to their spiritual wants, Singh positioned the photographs of the Hindu deities Vigneshwar and Krishna on the foot of a banyan tree and commenced praying to it frequently. Because it grew to become a preferred website of worship, he constructed a platform to carry Krishna’s picture. Singh managed the temple till 1880, when he grew to become too previous to take action.[4]He then handed over duty to his son, Humna Somapah, who managed it till 1904.
