As 2021 recedes within the rear view mirror, what an incredible yr it has been for all of us right here at Waterfall. Arts Glassworks. We closed out the yr with a last mission by the highschool youngsters right here. They’re fairly psyched. This sculptural Magnificence shall be introduced to the personal basis that donated the funds so this program may exist. This piece, together with a video of its making, and interviews with the scholars by Chris Battaglia, will introduced at a future date.
The man within the picture, within the blue shirt holding the sculpture, is Brian Frus, our new instructing addition to the studio. What an ideal scenario that’s. Brian, his spouse, Stephanie, and their two daughters, landed in Ellsworth this fall, transferring from Jacksonville, Florida. Brian was the Professor of the Glassblowing Division at Jacksonville College for a bunch of years, like, 14, or one thing.. (sorry, Brian, I don’t know your resume by coronary heart). He heard about us, got here down for a go to, and we shortly lassoed him into instructing. Additionally, he is aware of his method round a studio, as we are saying, and has already fastened and improved lots of our preliminary tools.
We could also be getting one other addition of two skilled glassblowers from Alabama in March. So, already, as you may see, this studio is a magnet on a nationwide degree. And it’ll solely get stronger, I do know it.
As for me, I’m making new work! Experimenting, taking part in, profiting from this fabulous studio that’s at my disposal. Now that we’re working recurrently and all of the tools is working, I can flip my vitality to Creating. What a reduction, and thrilling! My intention is to work on sculptures and one-of-a-kind objects with a little bit extra complexity. And to take extra time with each bit. That’s new for me, and I’m wanting ahead to seeing the place this leads me. Listed below are just a few objects I’ve made just lately . . .
