On Saturday, 10 August, 2024 6-9PM throughout Second Saturday, Kolaj Institute will host a guide launch for Magic within the Trendy World. At 7PM, Kadour will make a quick presentation in regards to the guide and New Orleans artists Caroline Alterman and Ariya Aladjem Wolf will talk about their work. Taking a broad view of magic and drawing from a number of histories, the guide, Magic within the Trendy World, proposes a manner to consider magic within the twenty first century, what it means to communities, and the way it negotiates itself in programs of energy. The guide asks, What position can artists play in nurturing and supporting magic traditions? Curator Ric Kasini Kadour wrote, “By our art work, we are able to share tales, demystify histories, reinforce ancestral or neighborhood connections, and have fun magical practices in methods which can be secure, comfy, and legible. We will make seen cosmologies apart from these of the prevailing tradition and maintain area for various worldviews. At numerous instances, such work might be profound acts of resistance, caring, or celebration. With its historical past of surrealism, collage specifically lends itself to this work.” The exhibition, “Magic within the Trendy World” is on view at Kolaj Institute Gallery by August 11, 2024.
